Woman With Dog

Lend Your Time. Change a Life.

Become a vital part of our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in need.

Bruno Project is 100% volunteer-run.

We can’t do this without you!

Whether you have time to spare, a seat on a flight, or room in your heart and home, there’s a way for you to help. The Bruno Project runs entirely on volunteer power, and we’re always looking for kind-hearted individuals to join our mission.

Volunteer Roles

1

Application Screening

Help us find the best forever homes for our rescue dogs. Application screeners review incoming adoption applications, conduct phone interviews with applicants and their references, and coordinate video home visits using our provided checklist.

👉 If you're detail-oriented and enjoy speaking with fellow dog lovers, submit a volunteer application below and we’ll reach out to schedule an interview.

2

Fostering

Fosters are a vital bridge between rescue and adoption. If you have a safe, loving space in your home, you could be the lifeline a Potcake needs. We’re always in need of foster homes across North America to care for dogs awaiting adoption.

📍 Apply using the form below or drop us a What's App message to arrange a chat.

3

Puppy Porters

Puppy Porters are travellers willing to escort our dogs on commercial flights out of St. Lucia. Our volunteers handle all logistics—meeting you at the airport, checking in the dog, and greeting you upon arrival.

✈️ If you're traveling to or from St. Lucia and want to help a pup reach their forever home, please contact us before you book your flight.

4

Escort for Humanitarian Supplies

Flying from Toronto to St. Lucia? You can help by escorting empty crates or donated supplies. It’s simple—our team meets you at both airports to handle loading and unloading.

📦 Some airlines offer more generous baggage allowances for humanitarian aid—ask us how you can help before booking!

5

K9 Couriers

Our K9 Couriers help with transporting dogs or equipment. This includes:

  • Picking up dogs at the airport and delivering them to adopters or fosters

  • Transporting crates to passengers flying to St. Lucia

  • Helping relocated dogs travel between fosters and adopters in North America

🚗 If you have a reliable vehicle and love road trips with a purpose, include your vehicle details in the application form below.

6

Customs Representatives
(Canada)

We need volunteers to act as representatives for our importer at Canadian customs when dogs arrive. This includes being present to pay import taxes and ensure smooth entry.

💼 Scroll down to complete your volunteer application and help us bring more dogs home.

Volunteer Voices

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of everything we do. Through their stories, you'll get a glimpse of the joy, heartbreak, and deep connection that comes with rescuing and caring for the island’s animals. These personal reflections offer a window into the impact volunteering has—not just on the lives of the dogs and cats, but on the humans who love them, too.

"Fostering didn’t just help the dogs. It gave us purpose, community, and a beautiful reminder that small acts of kindness truly matter."
- Debbie A.

When we retired in Canada, we longed for a quieter life with purpose. In 2022, we moved to Saint Lucia with our autistic daughter, unsure of what we were searching for—just ready for change.

At a beach BBQ, we met a group of amazing people devoted to rescuing the island’s stray dogs. Their passion inspired us, and when asked to foster a newborn puppy, we said yes. That tiny pup changed everything.

Fostering became a source of deep joy and meaning. We’ve helped pups reach new homes in Canada, often sending them off with last cuddles and teary goodbyes. It’s bittersweet, but knowing they’re headed for love makes it worthwhile.

There’s heartache too. One of our first fosters, blind and suffering seizures, passed at six months. Saying goodbye was devastating, but we were grateful for the time we had.

I joke I’m not the best foster—I get attached too easily. My husband keeps us balanced, and we’ve agreed to cap our own dog count at two.

Fostering didn’t just help the dogs. It gave us purpose, community, and a beautiful reminder that small acts of kindness truly matter.
