The Promise that Changed Everything.

It only took one dog.

When Vanessa and Doris saved Bruno, they couldn’t have imagined the legacy they’d build, rescuing over 1,675 dogs (and counting).

The Bruno Project began in 2016 when Vanessa D. spotted a frail, dirty dog wandering the streets of St. Lucia. Shocked by his condition, she named him Bruno and began feeding him. When she returned home, her island friend, Doris took him in. Bruno was treated for mange, tick fever, dehydration, worms, fleas, and severe malnutrition. His prognosis wasn’t good. The island vet gave him a 50% chance of survival. But Bruno was having none of it, and under the watchful eyes and care of his new mom, he began to heal.

Today, he’s a healthy, happy, and deeply loved pup, enjoying a life free from fear, hunger, and neglect.

Changing the Reality for Strays in St. Lucia.

Bruno's rescue sparked a movement. Doris & Vanessa partnered with the St. Lucia Animal Protection Society (SLAPS), researched international adoption laws and built a network of passionate volunteers, and the Bruno Project was launched.

Since then, more than 1,675 dogs (and counting) have found loving forever homes in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

How it Works

Every adoption begins with a carefully screened application, reviewed by our dedicated team of volunteers.

Once approved, dogs are scheduled for transport based on flight availability. From there, they’re driven to the airport by K9 couriers, accompanied on the journey by “puppy porters,” and warmly welcomed at their destination by their new families.
